Episode Transcription

For today’s Verse of the Day, turn to the book of Job, chapter 1, verse 21:

“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” — Job 1:21

When we first walk this earth, we ourselves have nothing to our name. Job realized that everything that has been given to him was a gift from God. “The Lord gave.” Therefore, it is also within the bounds of God for Him to also take away. “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.”

All good gifts are from our Heavenly Father. As we read in James 1:17:

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” — James 1:17

Everything that we have comes from our Heavenly Father. And not only can He give, but He can also take away.

This concept can be tough to understand and to fully comprehend, but God is God and we are not. He reigns. He is the King of all kings. He is the LORD of all lords. If all that you is Him, then truly, you have all that you need. He knows us better than we know ourselves. No matter if in this season God gives or God takes away, He is still worthy of our worship and our praise. Let’s put it all together:

“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” — Job 1:21

I recently heard a quote that went something like this: “if you have a desire that God has not already filled, then in this current season, you don’t really need it as much as you think you do.”

I don’t know what it might be for you. Maybe you desire for the promotion, for the relationship, for the newest iPhone, for the college acceptance letter... and the list goes on. Maybe there is no desire, but maybe you might be in a season where God has taken something away, something that you love, something that means a lot to you... and it is no longer in your life. Let me go ahead and say I am so sorry, and I have been there. What did I learn? God will never leave you, He will never forsake you. Chase hard after Jesus, my friend. And, when you do, you will find Him.

Let’s pray: LORD, I thank You for You. No matter what season of life we are in, Your Word says that You will never leave us, and You will never forsake us, and we acknowledge that to be true. As we go throughout today, this week, and this season, help us to fully trust in You, to fully surrender to You. LORD, thank You for everything. We love You, we trust You, and we praise You, and I say all of this in Your Holy and Precious Name, Amen.

Y’all, have a great day.
