Episode Transcription

In the book of Acts, chapter 13, verses 38-39...

“Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.” — Acts 13:38-39

As always, life is crazy. Like crazy. Just for a tiny glimpse into my life, I want to share an excerpt from my Midnights journal a few months ago.

No where in the Bible will you read that you are guaranteed tomorrow. But you are guaranteed trouble. And, I can almost guarantee that if you do wake up tomorrow, you are going to be surrounded in work because it just keeps coming. The world today is hungry for faster. The need for speed. Complete more, and more, and more until you are running so fast that you are going to burnout and hit a hard place soooooo fast. It is gonna hurt. I promise you, the path of assignment completion is virtually never ending. It is stressful. It is exhausting. It is a lot. It can easily become too much. It is toxic.

So here I was two months, with all of this in my mind, heading back to campus on my bike. The weather is the feel good Texas 77°F summer weather. I am traveling around 15 mph so the wind feels so good and I turn onto a road on campus that has several large trees that hang over the drive so the sun is shining through and it hit me... all of the stressors and the worries and the mountains and the complications and the questions vanish. In that moment, I was reminded that everything was going to be okay because Jesus was sovereign. He reigns on the throne, and so everything was gonna be okay. I am His kid, so He is going to take care of me.

He loves you. How much, you might ask, more than you could imagine. You can understand it (it is incomprehensible). The truth of the matter is, humanity has a sin problem. There is no way we can save ourselves. We aren't that good (we are so bad). We constantly don't meet His standards. We are all sinners. But I have some really good news, as Luke writes in Acts 13 as he summarizes the Gospel, Jesus took the price of sin on our behalf. We couldn't and never will be able to pay for it, but Jesus already did for us. All you have to do is ask Jesus to be the LORD of your life. To ask Him in. To ask for His forgiveness. To acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of a savior, and to ask Him to be that Savior.

Through Jesus alone is this possible. It is not by us.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.“ — Ephesians 2:8-9

Because He is sovereign, He is going to take care of everything. Even the sin. Lay it down at the cross to die. The devil doesn't win. He can't win. He doesn't get to "reign over hell", that would be insane. the Bible says that there will come a day when even he is there for eternal punishment.

If you don't chose Jesus, you are going to have to pay up for the sin yourself, and you can't do it. The forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you only through Jesus. There is no other way. He is the only way.

To wrap up, today's verse is so good that I am going to read it again:

“Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.” — Acts 13:38-39

Turn to God. Give it to Jesus. When He is your LORD, you have nothing to fear. When you are God's kid, He will take care of you. If you ever want to reach out to me to talk about what it means to surrender your life to Christ or if you want to ask me about next steps, I am always here. Know that I love you, and Jesus loves you too. Have a great day.
